Description: The painter’s father, Friedrich Johann Gottlieb Lieder, himself a well-known painter and Imperial Royal Academic Councilor, as a captain either of the Jäger Corps in Gran (Esztergom) or the Civic Guard in Tyrnau (Trnava) (on the right in the picture), at a meeting with a Russian captain in front of the assembled guard

Provenance: According to Thieme & Becker, formerly in the collections of Archduke Friedrich in the Albertina; a watercolored preliminary work with the portrait of the father is still in the collections of the Albertina today (Inv. No. 5804)
