Acquisition of a private clock collection:
A private collection of wall clocks and longcase clocks, which was restituted altogether a couple of years ago, could be acquired last year. About 20 pendulum clocks, which never had been scientifically described before, we will make accessible to the public one by one, among them a rare year duration clock from the time around 1815 made by J. Lechner (signed “J. Lechner in Kaschau”; skeleton movement with bridges and cocks, glass dial, fire-gilded bezel, individually adjustable hands, hidden weight, small counter weight, length 55‘’). Also shown will be one Viennese regulators of the famous maker Philipp Fertbauer with a glass-enclosed movment, Viennese grande sonnerie on bells and auxiliary dials to indicate day and date. A further regulator with two weights will be offered as well, signed and dated “J. Lehrner in Kaschau, 1826” with a fire-gilded large dial, enclosed movement and Viennese grande sonnerie on gongs with a pivotable hammer. Lehrner was famous for his extraordinary constructions. We also shows a Laterndl clock with month duration and eccentric weight from Jakob Hitzinger in Vienna. Plus a fire-gilded Empire mantel clock “Aphrodite and Amor” with the clockwork within the sail of the ship-shaped clock (Viennese grande sonnerie on gongs, anchor escapement, repetition). |
